Does the Duval County School Board need a slap in the face?

The school board took umbrage when they read a letter from the Jacksonville Public Education Fund saying the organization “is poised to lead the effort to strategically improve public education in Duval County, Florida.”

This outraged board member Tommy Hazzouri to the point he said, “To say they are going to lead the education effort in Jacksonville, JPEF is dead down wrong, The leadership is the superintendent, and the board supports the superintendent.”

WC Gentry said it was, “totally out of line” and “disturbing.”

Betty Burney on the other hand tried to figure out why the JPEF might be taking such a stance and said the district needs to do a better job of getting its successes out to the public. Well Mrs. Burney that is the problem, the districts successes are just tricks of light, data manipulated to paint the picture you want the public to see and the public knows this. The city knows many of our schools are struggling and the board isn’t helping.

Paula Wright said that the statement of the JPEF was a slap in the face and where I believe she and the above quoted board members took what was said way out of context maybe that’s what they metaphoricaly need. They need something to wake them up.
