heritage foundation slams teachers

From the Orlando Sentinel

by Dave Weber

Now here is an interesting study that tickled my computer screen a bit ago.

It suggests – no, flat out says – that teachers are overpaid.

Got your interest?

The influential, rightwing Heritage Foundation has released a report today that says teachers are paid half again what they are worth.

I guess that means the first year Seminole County public school teacher who earns $36,000 a year is really only worth $24,000. Really?

“Far from being underpaid, the typical public school teacher makes out very well indeed,” the news release about the study says.

The study says it looked at what it says teachers would make if they moved into the private sector to come up with its conclusions.

The news release about the report whacks teachers with references to their “gold-plated retirement plans” and other comments that tip the bias meter way to the right and detract from credibility of the study.

But it is in line with the Heritage Foundation’s stands on education issues including reduced federal involvement -and tax dollars – for schools, more charter schools, merit pay for teachers and other education reforms favored by the right.
