If you are selling swamp land the Duval County School Board is buying

These are two whoppers that the district recently bought hook line and sinker.

KIPP promised they would not expand unless their kids did better. In case you missed it thier first school had the lowest grade of any in Northeast Florida and now they want to open two more. How are they going to determine their kids are doing better? Well they are going to create a test, administer it and report the results themselves. Is that a strategy we should let kids who are failing their classes use. Of course not but the deep pocketed KIPP schools can get away with it.

Though above pales in comparison to the following.

Frank DeSensi, charismatic leader of Education Directions said, schools that listen to him improve, schools that don’t, don’t. Gosh that’s a claim that every teacher everywhere makes, should we just call it a day and go with that? How do we know the opposite isn’t true and every school that ignored him improved and those that listened to him didn’t? Where is the data? Sadly the only data we have is that he has collected 5.6 million dollars over the last few years and no discernable improvement has occurred. Oh and friends of the superintendent work for him too.

Neighbors, parents and friends the people that bought these lines, the superintendent and school board are the same people who are running the district! They have put our children’s future and quite a bit of money too, into the hands of what some people might call snake oil salesmen. They promise the moon, take our money and thus far have delivered, well I will let you be the judge of that.

We should expect better but unless there is a change at the top we are never going to get it.
