Duval County doesn’t have an education problem they have a communication problem

Or at least that is what they think. Every day the district puts out an information sheet. Some teachers call it the daily propaganda rag. In yesterday’s sheet this was included:

One of the School Board’s 1st Quarter 2012 Goals is to enhance internal and external communications. In doing so, three new positions are being brought to the School Board at the January 9 Board meeting that will assist the district in ensuring that information on district and school programs and activities is being promoted to staff and the community.

I hope they will communicate with us why the district got rid of a hundred teachers and with so many teachers out of work on the first coast contracted with Teach for America (at 2400 dollars a pop) to bring in a hundred more.

I hope they will communicate with us why they allowed the KIPP charter school program to expand by two schools when the first failed so spectacularly.

And I hope they will explain why six of our 13 neighborhood schools are about to be taken over by the state, though I guess that is just a communication problem too.
