More Florida school grade news

From Tampa Bay.coms Gradebook

by Jeff Solochek

The Florida Department of Education today announced the grades of 474 high schools, noting that 31 percent earned an A and another 47 percent earned a B.

The results could have been even better.

Just over 40 percent of the high schools had their grades dropped by one letter because they failed to have an adequate percentage of at-risk students graduate, failed to have adequate progress among their lowest 25 percent of students, or both.

By the numbers, as reported by the FLDOE:

- 170 schools dropped from A to B. Among those
•53 dropped solely because of the at-risk graduation rate
•79 dropped solely because of the Low 25 Adequate Progress requirement
•38 dropped because of both

- 11 schools dropped from B to C, all because of adequate progress for the lowest 25%

- 17 schools dropped from C to D, all because of adequate progress for the lowest 25%
