Parent trigger vote scheduled for Friday

From the Tampa Bay Times

by Kathleen McGrory

The red-hot parent trigger bill will be heard on the Senate Floor Thursday -- but the vote won't happen until Friday.

The proposal, which would enable the parents at low-performing schools to demand certain turnaround programs, has been a lightning rod this week. Gov. Rick Scott, former Gov. Jeb Bush and national education reformer Michelle Rhee are pushing hard on its behalf. But Florida parent groups, teachers' unions and school districts say the bill will only serve for-profit school management companies, and have launched a campaign to fight the proposal.

The vote call was still too close to call Wednesday night.
