What does possession of Marijuana get you in Jacksonville’s schools?

What does possession of Marijuana get you in Jacksonville’s schools?

If you are a second grader at a local elementary school it gets you a three-day suspension. I guess we should be grateful for that because when the same child threatened to bring a gun and kill everybody all they received was a nervous look.

Kids need consequences for their actions and if this kid is too young to understand what they did then their parents need to be held responsible. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out this kid is in trouble but instead of involving the police and dinging our statistics we sweep the incident under the rug and allow them to start their spring break a little early.

Some of our schools need full time mental health counselors and social workers. Often why a kid acts up in school or makes no effort in school or threatens to bring a gun and kill everybody or brings a marijuana cigarette to school has nothing to do with school and when the school district ignores actions like above we court disaster either for the student in particular or somebody else.

To answer the question, what does possession of Marijuana get you in Jacksonville’s schools? A vacation.

  1. Couldn't agree more with your statement that school need trained mental health professionals to work with the students and the things that get in the way of school! Our district has 12 social workers...that is it! For 123,000 students. And the 50 school psychologists are stretched too thin after being cut back 25%! COunselors have also been cut back significantly and are overwhelmed...what is it gonna take? It's scary to think about that answer...

  2. I don't think the people know and then we spend money on a PR staff?
