The mayor is a big fan of mentors as we all should be but if he thinks we can mentor are way out of the education problems here in Jacksonville he is sadly mistaken.
Do you know why I think politicians and blue ribbon panels, and news paper editors’ love mentors? They are cheap; nobody has to pay for them.
I wish we could have a mentor for every kid that wanted one but as long as we continue to ignore rigor and discipline and as long as we continue to treat teachers like easily replaceable cogs rather than valued assets it wouldn’t matter.
Mayor Brown your commitment to bringing more mentors to Duval County is admirable but it is also a little short sighted. Band-Aids on flesh wounds don’t work.
