Our next superintendent needs to be a problem solver

When I was at the superintendent envisioning committee meeting the various parties came up with many traits they want in a superintendent. Visionary, the abilities to inspire and communicate and someone who values diversity were frequent themes. Unfortunately they left out the quality that I think we need the most and that’s problem solver.

Many of our kids don’t read on grade level, the next super must have a plan to remedy this.

Teacher morale is in the dumps; our next super must be able to improve it.
Student accountability has been seriously diminished and our next superintendent must know how to restore it.

Discipline, quality administrators and ESE issues are among dozens of other problems that the district has and they must be solved. I want to know how the next Super plans to do so.

Being a visionary, motivator and futurist all sound great but they also all pale in comparison to being a problem solver. We need a problem solver.

I would suggest that the district outline its problems and ask potential candidates just how they were going to solve them.
