19% of Duval’s third graders fail FCAT reading

Nearly a fifth of our third graders or a little over 2000 children scored a one out of 5 on the FCAT reading. 48% of our kids scored a one or a 2 and are not considered proficient and they face retention and/or intensive remediation.

Our scores compared to the state averages were.

Levels, 1-2-3-4-5
State- 18-26-23-20-11
Duval-19-29-22-20-9

Let’s also compare our scores to Miami Dade, which has more children on free and reduced lunch than we have children total, 70% of their kids are on it while only 50% of our kids are, and neighboring St. Johns and Clay counties
