In 2008 voting along race lines, the five white members of the school board voted to keep the name of Forrest high school the same and the two black members voted to change the name of the Westside School.
In case you didn’t know it Forrest was named after the confederate general who formed the KKK.
The anonymous quote reported to education Matters was, “go ahead and vote to keep the name (Priestly Jackson supported by Burney) and we will vote against it. It is win win for all of us.”
As I said this was an anonymous quote. If any member of the board would like to refute this, Education Matters will publish it unedited or unaltered.
