Florida’s shameful use of veterans to push the charter school agenda.

Florida has passed a bill that has a lot of good provisions for veterans. That’s a good thing; the Florida legislature shoving in provisions to speed up the proliferation of charter schools, well friends that’s a shameful thing.

From Political Fix Florida: Though the bill passed both chambers of the Legislature on unanimous votes, language that “encourages” military base commanders to work with the Department of Education to sprout charter schools on military bases prompted heart burn for some Democrats, including those in the Tampa Bay-area.

“I want to know whether or not… this in anyway changes the rules with respect to the establishment of charter schools in Florida,” asked state Sen. Arthenia Joyner, D-Tampa.

I don’t blame the democrats that voted for the bill. I can just imagine the attack adds if they would have voted against it but at the end of the day the mere fact anything about charter schools was in the bill is shameful.

This all stems from charter schools USA wanting to put a charter school base on McDill air force base where in the “who cares category” there was already a renowned and A public school.  This amendment was not about helping veterans or even about helping military families it was all about helping a rich campaign donor and we all suffer because of it.

You see facts don’t matter and local control doesn’t matter either, only making money off charter schools does.
