I certainly would. NCLB is the dullest, most repetitive, conformist, concrete like substitute for an ideal education as I've ever seen, and for the last ten years have had to teach.

NCLB tells us what to teach, when to teach it, and then blames us for the results.

In my classroom, I secretly live by these words from Albert Einstein - "Imagination is more important than knowledge", but when we are teaching to the tests, when each Monday, each Tuesday and each day for every week of every year is exactly the same there is nothing imaginative about this NCLB and it's curriculum.

The wealthier districts which don't depend on federal dollars throw out NCLB, but we teachers who are in the poorer, urban school districts are held to it's every letter. The NCLB police come in bi-yearly with their clip boards to check if we are saying the correct words, and have we the correct papers on the walls.

Do I sound angry? In a way I am. I went into teaching because I love learning, and I felt I could make a difference in the lives of the children I came in contact with. I wanted to help make the world a better place to live in, and I still do.

Sincerely, a 3rd grade teacherElinnoreply@blogger.com
