Solutions that don’t break the bank, reinvent the wheel or marginalize our teachers are within our grasp. We could have rigorous classes, safe and disciplined schools and treat teachers like professionals, and we could do so tomorrow if we wanted.

New KIPP schools should not be allowed to open in Jacksonville
Jacksonville’s local KIPP program (a national chain of charter schools) is seeking to expand and create two new schools for the 12-13 school year. I have reservations. KIPP’s overall program has been called into doubt and their first school in Jacksonville received the lowest FCAT grade in North East Florida. Shouldn’t we wait to see if the program is going to be successful before we allow more KIPP schools to be opened? Is that asking too much when kids future’s are on the line?
