At last night’s budget meeting, school board chair W.C. Gentry said that in Florida, education makes up about thirty percent of the budget but is where Rick Scott and the legislature are finding seventy percent of the budget cuts.
This is not a recession issue, this choice to defund education, this is a priority issue and quite frankly education is not a priority of the governor and legislature.
Florida is a pro business state, with a haphazardly applied and low corporate tax and without an income tax. If businesses aren’t flocking here now, what makes the powers-that-be think they will after we gut education?
