Jeb Bush has returned to the state to raise money for a
potential presidential run and to tout his so called education accomplishments.
Though if we are being honest his accomplishments are far a few between.
His A-F grading scale shows one thing and that’s zip codes
as the schools that do the worse are usually in the poorer ones.
The teacher evaluation system is based on junk science
called the Value Added Method. A complicated formula that doesn’t take into
account poverty, behavior or absences and which has been disavowed by the
American Statistical association.
Then his high stakes testing agenda is unraveling. After
years of sucking the joy out of learning for students and teachers alike
opposition has reached a crescendo. It’s
punitive and used to punish schools, teachers and students.
Finally there are a couple more things you should know. The improvements
that Jeb Bush takes credit for practically coincide with the citizen driven class
size amendment and other states which did not see fit to fail third graders,
blame teachers for the problems in education and outsource their children’s education
to for profit charter schools have seen improvements as well. Things very well may have improved here in Florida
but it is in spite of Jeb Bush not because of him.
Amen to that!
