Remember when school uniforms were the silver bullet

With a nod to the Sherman Dorn blog

Remember when school uniforms were the silver bullet that would end our education woes? It really wasn’t that long ago that school uniforms was the reform du jour that was going to save our children and turn our schools around. Very few people now days talk about the need for school uniforms. I wonder if it’s because the Bush family or their cronies couldn’t figure out how to make money off them. Instead they have turned to improving teacher quality, vouchers, standardized tests and charter schools as solutions, things the Bush family and its cronies have found a way to make money off of.

In a few years there will be another solution (trained chimps hitting play on a VCR or holograms perhaps) and the powers-that-be will steer us to something else. That’s if public education can survive the current school reforms.

Knowing what I know now, we should have gone with the uniforms.
