An attempt to convert the Key Biscayne K-8 Center to a charter school was overwhelmingly voted down by parents and school faculty Friday.
The 533 parents and 84 members of the school’s faculty who voted were 94 percent against converting to a charter, according to a district spokesman. A simple majority would have been enough to force a conversion.
The vote was pushed by two parents who wanted to turn the overcrowded school into a non-profit charter, run by parents and professional advisors, with new buildings and the same staff.
