Tampa Bay would get at least $209 million to upgrade schools from President Obama's proposed jobs bill, part of $1.28 billion funnelled to Florida schools overall and $25 billion nationwide, according to the White House. Hillsborough would get $122.8 million; Pinellas, $54 million; Pasco, $32.4 million.
Vice President Joe Biden was in South Florida today to pitch the plan.
From a White House press release:
Florida will receive $1,280,300,000 in funding for K-12 schools to support as many as 16,600 jobs. Included in this amount are direct funds for 14 of Florida’s largest school districts, including the following:
The Dade County School District, including Miami, will receive $267 million in funds. These funds could support as many as 3,500 jobs.
The Broward County School District including Ft. Lauderdale, will receive $125.3 million in funds
The Hillsborough County School District, including Tampa, will receive $122.8 million in funds
The Palm Beach County School District, including West Palm Beach will receive $98.4 million in funds
The Orange County School District, including Orlando, will receive $87.3 million in funds.
The Duval County School District, including Jacksonville, will receive $80.3 million in funds.
The Polk County School District, including Bartow, will receive $61.3 million in funds.
The Pinellas County School District, including St. Petersburg, will receive $54 million in funds.
The Volusia County School District, including Deltona, will receive $38.2 million in funds.
The Lee County School District, including Fort Myers, will receive $34.8 million in funds.
The Pasco County School District, including Dade City, will receive $32.4 million in funds.
The Escambia County School District, including Pensacola, will receive $30.2 million in funds.
The Brevard County School District, including Titusville, will receive $30 million in funds.
The Marion County School District, including Buena Vista, will receive $28.2 million in funds.
