Duval’s graduation rate reaches and all time high! This is great news right? Then why do I feel a knot in my stomach?
I couldn’t be because we started excluding kids that are on special diplomas or who drop out to work on their GEDs is it?
It couldn’t be the proliferation of grade recovery, which saw 13,000, plus students make up classes? I wonder what our graduation rate would be like if grade recovery was used correctly?
No it’s neither of those things. It’s I don’t understand how our graduation rate isn’t ninety-five percent plus with the way we pump kids through and dump them on the street. A teacher I co taught with told me; kids really have to make an effort to fail. I know numerous teachers who say the C has become the new F because they have been cajoled, brow beaten and intimidated to pushing kids through. Then despite all this and grade recovery and a change to the formula our graduation rate is still just over seventy percent.
It doesn’t make sense, it should be a lot higher.
