The KIPP school gets away with a fast one. Thanks DCSB for gift

KIPP school officials want to open two more schools in Jacksonville. The first KIPP school performed very poorly. KIPP officials promise they will try really really hard to improve things and because of that they should be allowed to open two more schools.
What!?!

From the Times Union

KIPP Jacksonville's board chairman told Duval County School Board today he would commit in writing to not opening two new KIPP schools if KIPP's sole school in Florida fails to show improvement by December.

KIPP officials used words like "failed" and "ashamed" to describe their feelings about the "F" grade KIPP Impact Middle School received for the 2011-12 school year.

The comments were made during a School Board workshop today at district headquarters.

KIPP officials said they are using custom made assessments to measure their student's improvement in the first half of the year. KIPP's board will use that data to decide in December whether to open the two new schools.

KIPP's applications to open two new elementary schools passed the district's review process and received a recommendation for approval by Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals' staff.

The board postponed the original Oct. 4 vote on KIPP's applications in order to hear from KIPP officials today. The board will now vote on KIPP's applications during the Nov. 1 board meeting.

So let me see if I got this right, they are going to make an assessment and have the kids take it. If the kids improve that should be proof that they should be allowed to open two more schools. Can you imagine if a teacher allowed their students to do the same thing? It would be ‘A’s” for everybody.

Hey here is an idea have some success with the first school before you open another one.

They should be ashamed and we should be too if we allow them to open two more schools without any evidence of success.

  1. I could not agree more, but in Jacksonville, Gary Chartrand's money and influence carry more weight than intelligence, common sense, rules or even the laws and policies on the books.

It is the good-ole-RICH-boys network alive and well.

He should have FIRED ALL OF THE TEACHERS WHO WORK THERE AS WELL, AS HE PREACHES FIRING TEACHERS WHO DO NOT WORK OUT AT A SITE AND NOT MOVING THEM TO ANOTHER SITE!!

FIRE 'EM ALL, GARY, YOU HYPOCRITE!
