Yes congrats to those students who improved despite the fact they were cheated out of a well rounded and good education while the district obsessed over FCAT.
The district and the board should have obsessed over improving the schools' learning environments instead. The focus should be a well-rounded education.
Congrats to those students who improved despite a district who did not respect its teachers and who stubbornly held onto failed practices. To name a few: No attendance/tardy policy, continued use of the "recovery" program, a failed student discipline plan.
But how can we congratulate a superintendent and board who did not respect the public enough to be forthcoming about the money they were hoarding. Such arrogance. If the board did not know they should have. I know the district has a few very outstanding schools but with better leadership and management we would have more and more congratulations would be in order.
