Scott Shine again shows he doesn't understand education policy

Oy vey, I can't make this stuff up.

I will just let his own words do the talking for him.

From News4Jax

That veto means lawmakers will have to pass a new Florida education finance program bill during next week's special session. Scott and legislative leaders have agreed to add $215 million to the program, increasing per-student spending by some $100 in the coming academic year.

“That should offset, completely, the financial impact that this bill is going to have on the district,” Duval County Public School Board member Scott Shine told News4Jax Saturday. “We still have the other things in the bill to deal with, but the crisis, in my opinion, was the financial shortfall. It could've been anywhere from $8 million to $30 million, and that would have really put the district and a critical situation.”
Many parents in the area expressed their discontent with the bill.
Unlike the rest of the board and every legitimate education organization in Florida, Shine is okay with house bill 7069.
He doesn't care that it will close schools.
He doesn't care that it will give private companies public money and that if they fail, which many will,  the public will not be able to recover those assets.
He doesn't care that school district will be forced to share their capital dollars with charter schools, many of which are for profit.
He doesn't care that the bill was crafted in secrecy at the last possible minute.
But hey maybe the state will give the district a few extra dollars so he's down with it, people know Shine has already taken his thirty pieces of silver from the charter industry.
The more Shine talks the more apparent it is that he wants our schools taken over by an industry that in total has a terrible track record.
District 2, you have to do better.

  1. He does sound alot like our current commander in chief. He loves to throw his colleagues under the bus via the media but when somebody takes a shot at him he cries foul and goes all PC. I guess you can have it both ways.
