Dump Florida's school class size penalties, senator proposes
You knew it was just a matter of time.
With school boards threatening to sue, and many lawmakers still looking for ways to ease the sting, Miami Republican Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla has filed a bill to eliminate the fines imposed on districts that fail to meet constitutional class size standards.
The legislation would not add a word to current statute. Rather, it would strike out the entire section of section 1003.03 that titled "Accountability." That's an interesting thought for a GOP-dominated Legislature that lately has been hellbent on adding more and more accountability measures on teachers and students, isn't it?
