Grade Recovery, one more perverted education reform

Grade Recovery as it is done here in Jacksonville can be summed up as a failure of leadership to do the right thing even if it is hard and even if it costs money. The district is all about appearances and not about doing what is right for our children. Failing some children and requiring others to go to summer school is a far better alternative than passing them along without a work ethic, discipline and the skills they need.

The powers that be are okay with the state starving districts of resources, mandating bad policies and harming our children as long as it speeds up their efforts to privatize public education and make no mistake that is their aim. What some don’t know because they are willfully ignorant is the other options, private and charter schools don’t have the same accountability or rigor as public schools and when compared often do no better or worse.

Grade recovery like, charter schools, and vouchers may have had a role to play they could have been beneficial but like them it has been perverted and does more harm than good.
