During Mitt Romney’s education speech yesterday he attributed the following quote to a former head of the teacher’s union:
When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.
This has been attributed to Albert Shanker in the past by others seeking to denigrate teachers and marginalize unions but the only problem is he never said it.
Here is another problem, Albert Shanker is widely credited with coming up with the concept of charter schools, one of Mitt Romney’s education cornerstones and no Mitt Romney didn’t mention that either.
We don’t need hyperbole, half truths and out and out lies from our presidential candidates, we need honest debate.
