Not all of them but enough so that is troubling. I was told it tends to happen in clusters with most of those being on the high school level. If you don’t know what the CAST is, it is Duval’s new teacher evaluation tool and to say there are a few bugs would be a huge understatement. It is designed to help recognize weaknesses and help teachers improve but instead some principals are using it to fire teachers.
This year over a hundred teachers with satisfactory evaluations have thus far been non-reappointed and this on the heels of last year’s over two hundred. These teachers were not put on improvement plans and many didn’t know their jobs were in jeopardy.
The district wonders why teacher morale is a problem, well friends reason number 1,004 is the tool used to evaluate them is often capriciously and improperly used.
The district should announce right now, that unless a teacher has been put on an improvement plan and given the oppurtunity to do so then they will not be let go.
