This information needs to be shared widely, especially with Florida parents. Thanks, Chris, for putting it all in one place.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I went to a private Christian school growing up, and I never had to pass ANY test to graduate from high school or go on to the next grade level. Sure, I took the SAT, but that was to compete at the college level. Did you know that the ACT concordant score for the Reading FCAT is 19, which is considered college ready? How is the requirement to graduate with basic skills and competencies COLLEGE level? More than half of the current adult population has no college degree, but we are requiring all students to be prepared for college. How is this realistically fair??? On top of that, ACT and SAT scores have pretty much stagnated, yet Florida is still requiring all of this testing. We might be spending more on education, but on what aspect of education? People don't see the money/resources being filtered out of real education into the pockets of those developing all of these tests.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that schools have "testing coordinators" is absurd; schools would rather have that position than another AP because it takes up so much time and energy and resources.
Just to clarify for IB, AICE, and AP. They don't have to pass them. Passing is only required to earn college credit. As for AICE and IB exams, passing the exams counts toward earning the AICE and IB diploma only. They are not required to pass these exams to meet high school graduation requirements. That being said some of my AICE take 20 plus AICE exams in May and June in addition to FCAT, EOCs(both district and state), not to mention final exams. At least the AICE exams are valuable and meaningful in potential to earn college credit and work towards diploma acquisition.
ReplyDeleteAlgebra 2 is not required. If you take it though- you must take the EOC and it counts as 30% of the grade for that course.
ReplyDeleteOh, Duval Schools District could over-rule the 30% for the EOC so long as it is District administered.
