Well according to the districts logic he is in
anyways.
A couple weeks ago after a one-two percent improvement
of the Gallup poll on the wellness of 5th-12th grade students
the district touted it as the best thing since sliced bread. They said this
marginal and hard to quantify change was impressive.
Well let’s look at a recent survey question by the
JPEF.
How is Superintendent of Duval
County Public Schools, Dr. Nikolai Vitti doing?
Rating Last Year, This Year,
percentage change
Very effective 12.7/14.9/2.2
Somewhat effective 37.7/36.6/ -1.1
Somewhat ineffective 11.7/ 12.9/ 1.2
Very ineffective 10.3/ 10.1/ -0.2
Don't know 25.1/22.8/ -2.3
No answer 2.4/ 2.7/ 0.3
Total 100.0/ 100.0
I actually think the most telling statistic
is that over a fifth of the city has no idea how he is doing. Spolier alert I
think he has a big needs improvement, but his somewhat effectives slightly tumbled
and his somewhat ineffectives nosed up and yes I see his very effectives went
up too, probably explained by the survey talking to new charter school owners
but my point is the absurdity of the district getting so excited about a one-two
percent bump in the Gallup wellness study, and that absurdity is part of a new
propaganda trend initiated by the district. See the Supers Times Union op-ed as
example number one. http://jaxkidsmatter.blogspot.com/2014/12/vitti-saves-christmas-and-rest-of-us.html
I don’t know about you but I would
rather have a district that was honest about our problems instead of trying to
sugar coat them. The, its time the entire city rolled up its sleeves and got to
work, message resonates a lot more with me than the misleading, all is well,
message the district is trying to sell.
They
need to and can do better.
