Dear Mr. Guerrieri, from the School Board: part 1

This is in responce to the letter I wrote them, you can read it at my Dear School Board post. Just a quick note, if a kid can miss 30 days and then use grade recovery to make up a class then we don't have an attendence policy. -cpg

Chris,

Thanks for attending yesterday and for your email. The Board has raised questions regarding the issues you mentioned and keeps getting facially satisfactory answers from the administration. Nevertheless, we are in the process of totally reviewing grade recovery for the reasons you and others have raised. We have been repeatedly told there is no policy discouraging referrals or suspensions or “giving” grades to students who do not earn them. We do have an attendance policy. Obviously, what we hear from many sources from the classroom is different than what we are told is supposed to be going on. We are changing superintendents and, hopefully, agreed upon policies will in fact be implemented with fidelity and student and parental accountability will be restored to the equation. Prior to that time, we continue to address all the issues you have raised as well as many others.

Thanks,
W.C.
