The state average for 9th and 10th graders respectively was 52 and 50% scoring a three or higher. 48% of Duval’s 9th graders and 45% of tenth graders respectively scored a three or higher here in Duval, which was up 2 points and down one point from last year.
This means for 9th graders many will have to take remedial reading classes and 55% of our tenth graders will have to the test again or score an 18 on the A.C.T. to graduate with a diploma.
Despite concerns that increased rigor would cause scores to drop, they actual went up from 48 and 39% respectively.
I wonder how the district will spin this when despite the increased rigor, scores state wide were up slightly.
Are these even the real scores anyway? In the past the state and district have made some revisions to make things look better, is a possibility that they revisited those cut scores before they were even released to avoid another "disaster"? I'm not saying that has happened or will happen with the scores still coming, but especially considering the writing scores fiasco I would like to know...
