Cheating on standardized tests is on the rise nationwide. The term high stakes test has taken on a new meaning because kids can be held back, teachers can be fired and schools can be closed all based on a single test; the pressure on some students, teachers and administrators in unimaginable.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, about five percent of a county’s tests being flagged is normal and it’s when a county reaches ten percent consistently that its results should be scrutinized. Duval County has fallen in-between the two percentages the last two years with 7.49% and 7.62% of tests being flagged respectively. Where under ten percent the percentage of tests receiving red flags here is one of the greatest in the state and is the biggest of the big six school districts.
