It is funny what happens when you add things like punctuation, grammar, relevant facts and context to an essay things that weren’t previously required when taking the FCAT writes. Because of that teachers for years have been teaching formulaic writing rather than how to write and because of that we have been graduating poor writers for years.
Let’s not be hypocrites about this, punctuality, grammar, relevant facts and context are important skills for our children to learn and people on both sides of this issue should be mortified.
No friends’ students didn’t overnight become bad writers they have been that way for the years.
Maybe this will be a wake up call. It is just to bad it took place in 2012.
This could be a wake up that our students have too many other students included in their class that wouldn't be there if it weren't for inclusion. In all reality though we can't come to many conclusions at all. We don't really know how bad the students did considering the criteria changed. We don't know that much about particular students that might be getting slowed by students who arguably shouldn't be in the same classroom.
