W.C. Gentry makes me throw up in mouth a little

W.C. Gentry showed today he lacks understanding of what is best for our children. This lame duck school member, whose term can’t be up quick enough, thinks it is all right for our children to attend a program that thus far has shown it is bad for our children.

Last year the KIPP School had the lowest score on the FCAT in Northeast Florida and it was almost the worst performing school in the state too. Furthermore according to an article in the Times Union they haven’t shown any signs of improvement either but that’s okay to Mr. Gentry.

From the Times Union: Board member W.C. Gentry said KIPP is ready to run a second school now.

“From my perspective the new KIPP school meets all the criteria for being granted the charter,” Gentry said. “They took on a very daunting task, and I think we all recognize it’s very hard work when you really commit to trying to help kids who come to you from poverty.”

You mean like many of our hard working teachers here in Duval County whose jobs will be on the chopping block because of senate bill 736, a bill that ignores poverty?

The board seemed to have at least one rationale voice, Tommy Hazouri, he said, “…that means KIPP Impact’s only real results that the board can consider are last year’s and those were under whelming.

He said he’d be more comfortable waiting for the results of the latest test before allowing KIPP to open another school.

“I believe that they can be successful, but I don’t believe that they should move forward without having that success in hand,” Hazouri said.

Is it to much to ask that they show success before being allowed to expand?

W.C. Gentry just doesn’t get it but then again that is nothing new.
