What do we need more, mentors or school psychologists and social workers?

Last I checked we had 12 social workers for the entire district.

The recommended ratio for School Psychologists is one psychologist per 1000 students. DCPS has less than 42 School Psychologists for over 123000 PUBLIC school K-12 students....if you do the math, that is three times the number suggested the National Association of School Psychologists. AND they just FROZE an open position....Teachers and students need the support services that School Psychologists have been trained to provide.

Mentors are great and valueable so don't get me wrong. I wish we had more than we know what to do with but friends, in our struggling schools we need social workers and counselors assighned just to them. So often why a kid acts up or doesn't try in school has nothing to do with school.
