Education sadly has become all about numbers, not educating or doing what’s right for the kids.
A teacher could pass all their students with good grades too but it doesn’t mean any real learning went on.
A teacher could constantly drill for the FCAT probably ensuring a few extra points but that doesn’t mean any real learning went on.
We need to slow things down and do things the right way even if our numbers take a hit for a little while, because if we do it right, then down the road we’ll have sustainable and honest improvement.
If we tell a superintendent that is you keep referrals down and passing up we will give you a lot of money, a superintendent is most likely going to make sure the district keeps referrals down and passing up but that doesn’t mean discipline is better or kids are learning what they need.
An honest wage and a mandate to do it right is what we should be offering the next superintendent.
