Let’s connect the dots.
Betty Burney works for the Center for Reform of School Systems.
The Board is paying the Center for Reform of School Systems to advise them.
As far as I can tell they contacted no one else for advice and even bypassed the Florida Association of State Administrators, the group most Florida districts turn to when looking for a new super.
Wait there is more
The Board announced they were firing the superintendent on February 24th.
Then on March 8th less than two weeks later they announced the Center would be advising them on finding a new super. Furthermore I couldn't find any minutes where they discussed the choice.
Finally the Center is funded by the Broad Foundation, a corporate reform minded group who among other things runs a superintendent academy whose purpose is to put non-education types in urban school districts.
At the very least there is an appearance of impropriety here.
