This past weekend the Union met with candidates from all the school board races to ask them questions in order to figure out whom they might endorse. Noticeably absent was district 5 incumbent, Betty Burney. Mrs. Burney told the union she was going to be in New York for her son’s graduation.
I completely understand how life happens and have no problem with her skipping the meet to be with her son. I can’t say if I were in the same situation I wouldn’t have made the same choice. The issue I have is she didn’t even bother to fill out the union’s lengthy questionnaire. That’s either hubris or distain for our teachers and we need neither on the board.
Shouldn’t we expect better from our school board members?
