Solutions that don’t break the bank, reinvent the wheel or marginalize our teachers are within our grasp. We could have rigorous classes, safe and disciplined schools and treat teachers like professionals, and we could do so tomorrow if we wanted.
I love the point that he made about lottery funds versus school budgets. Originally, the lottery was meant to provide extra funding, not subsidize the budget. It's like Rick Scott, when he says that he has given money back to education. No, he took a whole bunch away and then gave some of it back. Additionally, I still have not seen my 3% reduction for retirement over the past 3 years given back to me. Of course, it looks like he and the lottery are giving back to education, when in fact, he is doing it on the backs of teachers and those who play the lottery. When he or the state says anything, I just cannot give it credence.
