Is DCPS planning to keep infections secret?

Superintendent Greene and the board are planning to send staff and students back to school when they know it is dangerous, have warned staff not to be too vocal in their dissent, said they will ignore guidelines meant to protect us when they prove inconvenient and now that they will keep infections secret unless they close schools. How the &%#$ is any of this right?

From First Coast News,

Duval County Public Schools says students and staff have a right to privacy, so it will not make any announcements unless instances of COVID-19 impact campus operations.

Um, nobody expects the district to release names and they know that. When they site "privacy concerns" they are looking for any excuse no matter how tenuous to keep the public in the dark and that is both shameful and dangerous.

This was also from the article.

“It’s not a matter of if, but when there are going to be exposers at the school,” said Dr. Mobeen Rathore, infectious disease specialist. “So I think we need to be well prepared for that, how we are going to reveal there is exposure at the school.”
Rathore says schools mirror society—if we’re seeing positive cases rise on the streets, you can expect that to happen in the halls.

I can't imagine another district handling this as bad as DCPS has, and that's because the opening is what Greene wants. She isn't doing it because she feels forced or she has no other choice, this is what she wants, and because of that, it looks like she is willing to go above and beyond what is decent and right.

We should all be troubled and scared by this announcement and then demand better.

  2. So when a kid gets Covid on the bus with my kid the health dept doesn't have to tell me because they had masks on? Or they do have to tell me?
