The Duval County school board did its children, teachers and schools a disservice Monday night when they procedurally (so they didn’t have to do
it in public) voted 7-0 to create three public relations positions.
Hold on to your wallets ladies and gentlemen because in a few months they will start to bemoan how the district is starved for money and how we will have to make millions in cuts and that will be harmful to our kids, perhaps they will use these new public relations positions to sell those points.
But how can we on one hand plead poverty and on the other hand fund three expensive positions that only have a peripheral relationship to the classroom. I don’t see how or even why the public should buy anything the district is selling now.
While mom and dad are buying a mocha latte from Starbucks their kids are at home sharing a packet of ramen noodles. It’s a travesty.
Once the district completely turns the public off it will be very hard to get them back.
