In Florida Charter Schools rob Public Schools of over a billion dollars

We've seen the boom in Florida charter schools and their enrollment. But have you ever wondered exactly how much charter education actually costs?
The state Department of Education has released a new report, required by the Legislature, to detail the expense. The bottom line?

Florida this year has 178,892 students in 525 charter schools, or 6.72 percent of total public school enrollment. The FEFP allocation to charter schools is $1.029 billion.

From that allocation, $24.17 million (2.35 percent) was held aside for district-provided administrative services. The districts' expenditures for those services was $39.45 million.

This year, state lawmakers have proposed putting even more money into charter schools. The discussion on public school funding continues in Tallahassee. Anyone think there's enough to go around as economic forecasters continue to see Florida making an "abnormally slow recovery"?
