In case you missed it the KIPP School was the worst performing school in Northeast Florida last year. They said they wouldn’t expand unless they showed improvement but that didn’t stop the school board from voting unanimously to allow them to expand before the scores came out.
I wonder how they would have voted if they waited.
In fifth grade reading their students scored:
1-2-3-4-5
36-33-23-6-1
That means 66% of their kids scored below a 3.
In sixth grade reading, their students scored:
1-2-3-4-5
27-32-31-9-1
59% of their kids scored below a 3.
Duval’s kids overall scored
1-2-3-4-5
16-27-27-19-10(43% ones and twos)
in fifth grade and
1-2-3-4-5
22-27-26-17-8 (49% ones and twos)
in sixth grade. So the kids there did considerable worse than their public school counterparts.
I wonder what the harm would have been to wait for improvement before they were allowed to expand.
