Betty Burney works part time for the Center for Reform of School Systems. She and the board (no-bid) contracted them to come in and advise whom they should hire as superintendent.
The center warned the district that the Sunshine Law, you know the law about open government would be a problem in finding a new superintendent, funny the other counties in Florida searching for a superintendent don’t seem deterred by being open.
Cathy Mincberg, president of the Center said in a Times Union Article, "The biggest problem you have, is how to deal with Sunshine"
Mincberg said the state's open records laws will weigh heavily on candidates' eagerness to apply for Duval's position — particularly candidates with good relationships with their current school boards.
"They do not get up and apply for places where they are going to be humiliated," Mincberg said. "Having your name out there is a humiliation because it says to your own board that, 'I'm thinking about leaving you.' "
Funny the other districts looking for superintendents haven't had a problem finding applicants either.
Do you know who doesn’t have to worry about what a board thinks? Non education types people from the business world and military looking to get into education.
The Center by the way is financed by the Broad Foundation who ruins a superintendent academy, who takes non education types and places them in urban school districts.
Friends is Betty Burney and the center steering us down a path where the district picks a non-educator superintendent? It sure seems like it.
