From the Tampa Bay Times, by Jeff Solochek
As expected, lower percentages of Florida students achieved grade-level proficiency on the 2012 FCAT exam after the State Board of Education increased the passing score on this year's more difficult test.
The numbers coming out of school districts so far show that in reading, the percentages of students at Level 3 or better are: 62 percent (fourth grade), 61 percent (fifth), 57 percent (sixth), 58 percent (seventh), 55 percent (eighth). In math, the percentages passing were 60 percent (fourth), 57 percent (fifth), 53 percent (sixth), 56 percent (seventh), 57 percent (eighth). In science, 51 percent passed in fifth grade and 46 percent in eighth.
