A resolution against high-stakes standardized testing seems to have found favor with the Pinellas County School Board.
Board members discussed it briefly Monday during a workshop meeting, quickly agreeing to add it to the agenda of their next regular meeting.
“I think we need to adopt this resolution and sign it,” said board member Janet Clark. “I don’t know what conversation needs to be had.”
Linda Lerner called it “very good” and Robin Wikle said she particularly liked the “second to last paragraph.”
Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association president Kim Black brought forward the "National Resolution Against High-Stakes Testing" in late May. It was first adopted in Palm Beach County. It also has been adopted in Broward County and St. Lucie County.
The resolution was written by Parents Across America, a non-profit organization, in collaboration with a variety of education groups. It was modeled after a resolution passed by school boards in Texas.
