Nobody believes the timing of the announcement that the superintendent’s contract was not going to be renewed had nothing to do with the revelation that the district was sitting on 109 million dollars of extra cash. NOBODY! But there was the board trying to sell it. In a Times Union article, Board members said the decision not to renew Pratt-Dannals' contract was not connected to the reserve fund issue.
This recent revelation came on the heels of the Schools of the Future debacle, the revelation our graduation rates our inflated and the disastrous state ranking of our district and schools.
I am not saying they had to throw the superintendent under the bus (though in my opinion he and the school board have been driving the bus into a hole for quite some time) but they could have said in light of recent developments we’re going to go in a different direction.
The sad truth is the school board was tired of being made to look foolish by the superintendent and his administration and they decided to do something about it. What’s sadder however is if they would have been doing their jobs in the first place then we might not be in the hole that we are.
