The Times Union editors recently wrote, the FCAT is off to a nice start. Well since it has been around for 13 years it is hard to imagine what will happen when it gets going but the amazing thing is the TU editorial board is the lone voice praising the FCAT.
The Pensacola News Journal, The West Volusa Beacon, The Palm Beach Post, The Miami Herald, The Orlando Sentinel, The Tampa bay Times, The TCPalm and a half dozen editorial boards have come out again the FCAT but for some reason the Times Union sees it differently.
In fact the Times Union’s editorial board often sees things differently. They praises the Broad Foundation, Teach for America and KIPP. They have given the superintendent and school board such a magnanimous pass over the last few years I have often wondered if Pratt-Dannals has pictures of the editorial staff with a live boy or a dead girl.
When they parrot the districts all is well message they do the city a disservice.
We need to have an honest conversation about education, which is hard to do when the TU is in the tank for corporate reforms, a test that only benefits, with millions of dollars those who make it and a super who has been devastatingly bad for the city.
