Peter Rummell versus The Duval County School Board

Just a week ago the school board was content to slow roll the process of picking the next superintendent sometime in December. Suddenly they want to speed up the works and have the next super in place before the elections in August.

There is much speculation that millionaire bussinessman Peter Rummell and his civic council has them spooked, threatening to hand pick opponents and spread lots of cash around.

Is the future of Jacksonville’s children going to be decided by a heavy weight tug of war contest?

The truth is the board has done a pretty poor job and several members deserve to be replaced, do we need 16 years of Barrett and 12 years of Burney or 8 of Gentry before we realize they just couldn’t get the job done? I think 12, 8 and 4, how long they have already served, should suffice.

But it’s also true we don’t need business interests only concerned about corporate for profit reforms buying a new board.
