In a Times Union editorial the former mayor and life long politician wrote, If our school system were heading in the wrong direction or not making progress, I would agree with postponing major decisions. But as the Times-Union said in its Feb. 29 editorial, our school system is making significant progress.
First we are going in the wrong direction. We teach to the test, most kids have an FCAT prep class, our graduation rate which is social promotion and grade recovery inflated is abysmal one of the worse in the state. Many schools and classrooms lack discipline because the district is more concerned with numbers than doing what is right, seventy percent of our high school grads have to take remedial lasses in college and teacher morale is abysmal. I could go on and on and on.
Mr. Hazouri what direction do you think we are headed in?!?
Whether you believe this board should hire the new superintendent or not please don’t for one second try and justify your, the superintendent and the rest of the boards shoddy performance. For shame!
Finally what would the Times Union know They have long had a love affair with the superintendent and they only know what you tell them, lord knows they don't listen to or respect teachers.
